Patricia Olive Cummings

Patricia Olive Cummings, of Thomasville, left this world to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. She was 80 years old. She lived a life filled with joy, love, compassion, and adventure. She always sacrificed and put the needs of her family first.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 61 years, Jerry, who devoted himself to her care during her final years. She is also survived by her daughter, Sandi Buchanan and her husband, Brian, and grandchild, Branson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse & Lillian Olive, her son, Jeffrey Walter and brother, Clyde.

Pat was born on December 12, 1943, in Yanceyville, NC. Pat graduated from Ragsdale High School and Kings Business College afterwards. She met the love of her life, Jerry Cummings in high school and they were married on June 8, 1963. They shared a wonderful love story for almost 65 years. Their family was complete with the addition of their son, Jeff and their daughter, Sandi. Pat was a loving and devoted Mother. She was a constant and supportive presence in their lives. She planted her seeds of faith in her children and grandchild and all those around her.

She retired from the Human Resources department at SaraLee SilverKnit division in High Point. Pat & Jerry then traveled the country together in their motor home for several years before returning to care for her Mother.

Pat was a member of Southgate Baptist Church in Thomasville. She loved the Lord, her church, traveling, gardening, the ocean, walking the beach, and fishing.

Though her health failed in her final years, she continued to be a blessing to all those who came in contact with her. She lived with such a strong faith in God and displayed joy and grace in the midst of her struggles. She will always be remembered for her cheerful disposition.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Southgate Baptist Church,104 Cloniger Dr., Thomasville, NC. with Pastor Russell Foxx officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, friends, and family are requested to make contributions in her memory to the Hospice Home of High Point, 1801 Westchester Dr., High Point, NC 27262.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to all her caregivers at the Hospice Home and the entire Hospice staff. They were truly a blessing to Pat & the family.

Doris Elizabeth Winslow Porter

December 26, 1943 - December 26, 2023

Doris Elizabeth Winslow Porter peacefully passed away surrounded by family on her 80th birthday, Tuesday, December 26. Born in High Point, NC on December 26, 1943 to Bertha Elizabeth Hester and Earl Morrison Winslow, Doris was the fourth of five sisters.

At five feet two, Doris was a petite dynamo – head cheerleader at Ragsdale High School, career realtor and master homemaker, Doris was a lifetime encourager and booster of her family. She hosted numerous family gatherings at her home in Jamestown – procuring and cooking amazing meals. No one left Doris’ home hungry. Her nine grandchildren were her greatest treasure and she faithfully attended their sporting events and concerts. She always welcomed the opportunity to take care of them and forged a special relationship with each one.

Doris was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, Francis Logan Porter, III and her sisters Betty Seward and Bobbie Hill. She is survived by her son Francis Logan Porter, IV (Eloise) of Greensboro, NC and her daughter Anna Elizabeth Porter Kaijser Bots (Jeroen) of Davidson, NC; nine grandchildren: Mary Mac, Frances, Logan and Ruthie Porter; Lucas, Lex, Lars, Anneliese and Avelynne Kaijser Bots; two sisters Sylvia Morgan, Sheila Clodfelter and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 14 at Jamestown Presbyterian Church with a reception in the Fellowship Hall immediately following.

William Gannaway Ragsdale III

William Gannaway Ragsdale III "Billy" passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Tuesday February 28, 2023. Billy was born on November 19, 1943, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Ragsdale Jr. of Jamestown, NC.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Antoniades Ragsdale. He leaves behind with loving memories; his beloved and devoted Jan of 15 years; his three loving sons: William G Ragsdale IV and his wife, Mary, and their four children Elizabeth, Lucy, Mary Katherine and Addison Ragsdale of Jamestown, NC; Seborn Perry Ragsdale and his partner, Declan of New York City, NY; and George Wrenn Ragsdale and his wife, Jenny, and their two children, Wrenn and Katherine of Jamestown. In addition, Billy leaves behind his sister, Perry Ragsdale Davis and her husband, Roger, of Wilmington, NC.

Billy was deeply loved by many and never met a stranger. He always treated others kindly and genuinely cared for them. He created lasting bonds with friends and loved ones through laughter, his infectious zest for life, and his love and intense loyalty. He had a canny ability of joke telling, he always had a good one to share with whomever he was with.

Billy graduated from Ragsdale High School and he attended Guilford College. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. Billy worked in the textile industry and ended his career as the President of Oakdale Cotton Mills. Billy always had a special place in his heart for the people that worked by his side at Oakdale. Through the years, he shared so many wonderful stories about them. Billy served on the Jamestown Town Council and he was the Mayor of Jamestown for 5 terms. He was very passionate about his hometown of Jamestown and promoted it at every opportunity. Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf with his friends and spending special time with his grandkids. Billy was a loving father and remarkable grandfather "Papa" and a loyal friend. He also spent a significant amount of time with friends and family at his home in Atlantic Beach, NC.

Billy was faithful and loyal member of Jamestown Friends, he took pride in being a birth rite Quaker and was a faithful and loyal servant of God.

The family will receive friends at the Jamestown Golf Course clubhouse in Jamestown, NC, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023. A service for Billy will take place at Jamestown United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023, with Rev. Chris Thore, Rev. George Ragsdale and Pastor Catherine Griffith officiating.

Munns, Jr., Harris Alton

May 29, 1944 - February 18, 2023

Harris Alton Munns Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at his residence.

Al grew up in the High Point-Jamestown area, graduating from Ragsdale High School in 1962, where he was an athlete, scholar and student leader. He attended Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill, earning his undergraduate and Masters degrees from UNC. Al began his career in education with Wilson City Schools and East Carolina University. He was with Guilford County Schools for over thirty years, serving as a teacher, supervisor, personnel director, assistant principal and principal. Al was a passionate Tar Heel fan and cherished his relationships with his many friends and co-workers. He shared his gift of poetry with his family and friends. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Harris Alton Munns and Eleanor Parker Munns; and a sister, Jane Oliver.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Linda H.Munns; a daughter, Katherine Sims (Eric); two sons, Daniel Munns (Mary) and Joel Munns, (Nicole); nine grandchildren, Kaitlin Munns, Ryan Munns, Bennett Munns, Riley Grace Munns, Parker Munns, Elijah Sims, Olivia Sims, Mica Sims, Jude Sims; and his four beloved cats.

A Celebration of Al's life will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Norma Jean Hughes Kirkman, 78, resident of Archdale, died November 29, 2022 at High Point Medical Center.

Norma was born July 10, 1944 in Guilford County, a daughter to C.B. and Esther Modlin Hughes. She graduated from Ragsdale High School and later worked for First Factors Corp./GE Capital for over 30 years. In 1969, she married Ronald "Ronnie" Kirkman who survives of the residence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Judy.

Also surviving are her son, Ron Kirkman and wife Nicki of Trinity: a granddaughter, Tori Kirkman of Trinity: two brothers, Jerry Hughes and wife Tommie of Lexington and Richard Hughes and wife Pam of Archdale: and several special nieces and nephews. Norma loved her family and especially enjoyed the times spent together at the beach.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Rev. Roger Carmichael officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the organization of the donor's choice.

High Point - Donald "Don" Barnard Jr. was born Dec 3, 1948, and passed away November 8, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Dot Barnard. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Jackie Lamar Barnard. Don loved his country and was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. Uncle Donnie loved and was loved by his nephews, Hunter Camp and wife Susan, and Travis Camp and wife Amy; and his Nieces, Mary Bryan Tweedy and husband Matt, and Kathryn Midkiff and husband Dave. The family will have a private service at a later date.

GREENSBORO – Patricia “Patsy” G. Owensby, 77, died Thursday, May 5, 2022. A graveside service will be held a 1:00 pm on Wednesday May 11, 2022 at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro. Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel has the honor of assisting the Owensby family.

High Point – Sandra Lee Hill Hurlocker, 77, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 following two years of declining health.

Sandra was born in Guilford County on February 4, 1944 to the late Joseph C. Hill and Virginia Hollingsworth Hill.

Sandra was a faithful member of Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church and was for many years a member of First Wesleyan Church in High Point. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and is now in his presence. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Sandra graduated from Ragsdale High School and attended High Point University. Sandra was an accountant with High point Regional Hospital for 30 years before retiring.

Those who will cherish Sandra’s memories are her husband of 52 years, Ronald Charles Hurlocker; son, Rev. Ronald Charles Hurlocker, Jr. and wife, Shelli of Indiana; grandchildren, Ronald Charles Hurlocker, III and wife Lydia and Joey Roy Hurlocker; sister, Dianne Peeler and husband, Mickey of Jamestown.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive in High Point. A service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Turcotte and Reverend James Capps officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

Ronnie Mitchell, 77, a resident of High Point and Oak Island, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Ronnie was born in High Point, Oct. 21, 1943, a son of the late Rufus Eldridge Mitchell and Mary Elizabeth McMillian Mitchell. He retired from Mobil Chemical and the worked at the Oak Hollow Tennis Center.

Ronnie loved the beach, shopping and never met a stranger. He is preceded in death by his brother, John Mitchell.

Surviving are his life partner and friend, Sharon Atkins.

Thomas Wilson Brown, 76 of Grennsboro, NC passed away at his home on July 25, 2020.

He was born August 2, 1943 in Guilford County, NC. Upon graduating Ragsdale High School in 1962, Tommy joined the United States Marine Corp, where he served his country for four years.

After his discharge he met his wife of 53 years, Ethel Brown.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Brown is survived by 1 son, Thomas Brown and his wife Gloria of Greensboro, NC, four grandchildren, Anthony, Mark, Gavin, and Melanie Brown of Greensboro, two brothers, and three sisters.

A graveside memorial service will be held on August 7, 2020 at 10 AM at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 West Gate City Blvd, Greensboro.

On June 5th, 1962, one hundred and thirty eager students graduated from Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, North Carolina.

The world into which we entered was an uncertain one with the Cold War at its zenith and a space race between the US and the Soviet Union. And, although we didn't know it at the time, the Vietnam War would soon begin.
